It's a new day. You slowly reach out to turn off your alarm. It's annoying sound is blaring from your cell and you remind yourself to change the sound. You start to realize that based on how heavy your eyelids feel, you're not ready to face the day yet. A shower, toothpaste, and coffee seems amazing until you attempt to move your sore body from the warmth of your bed. It's inevitable today. You need just a few more minutes! You decide to start the morning off with checking your Facebook feed. Hopefully, there are enough light-hearted posts to balance out last night's global or local news and the state of the election year.
Lucky for you, the first thing you see is your funny friend has another zinger. Since she's always up early, and you laugh at all her posts, Facebook knows you need to see it first. Next up, your fit friends and their morning accomplishments, your inspirational friends with their daily dose of motivation, your political friends that never backdown, the quiet ones (you feel their presence), the summer vacation posts, and finally your friends that hustle-- and you have a lot! Everyone has more than one form of income nowadays so someone is most likely selling services, products, or ideas. You think to yourself, "Why can't I figure out how to do that? There must be something talented or interesting about me?"
My friend, there definitely is! What was the very first thing that came to mind when you looked at that sentence? You read it and had a thought or some memory or some core secret gift that's been locked up and pings your heart when you think about it. You have the ability to unlock your confidence to unleash your inner gift. Change your narrative.
It's a new day. You wake up! Your eyes instantly open to the trumpeted sound of the Queen's Arrival. You are ready to take on the day because you have so many things to do. You have to decide which passion you are going to bring to life with every new day that comes whether it's: that new clothing line you want to launch, that crocheted sock business, custom hats, or that book you want to write. You are going to own it. The only time you will open Facebook today is to start a new page. Over night, you decided on a name and you can't wait to share it with your friends and family! But first, coffee...
If any of this sounds familiar, I completely understand where you are coming from. These two narratives were mine. What was my answer when I asked myself that same question I told you to ask yourself? Mine was, I want to be a full time Photographer. I told myself, "Yes, Queen. Yes you can!" So, now I do actually wake up to the fanfare of the trumpets announcing the Queen's arrival! It helps me feel that little bit of confidence I need to boost me up.
Back in 2020, I decided I didn't want to wake up feeling the same way anymore. I found a renewed spirit in me and went full force into it. Here I am in 2024, I finished my degree, completed 4 years of owning and growing a business, and then became a full time freelance Photographer and Business Branding Consultant. You can do this too. What is your why? What is your passion? When you have these answers, the next step is easy. One foot in front of the other, the path will be shown to you. Trust in yourself, and trust in God. I did.
Find your trumpet song and blast it so loud that the angels can hear it in heaven and sing it back to you.
